STORIES
It has come as something of a shock to realise that I have been writing short stories for more than forty years.
The earliest story listed here is Waiting for Breakfast, and for reasons given in the foreword to that story, I know that I was twenty-one when I wrote it. I wrote the last few stories after I retired, so what is in this section of the site does indeed represent the output of some forty years of writing.
That output includes about twenty adult stories, some of which I gathered together in a volume called Wanderings, and nineteen children’s stories which have been published by Sparsile Books in a volume entitled As They Grow Older (Spooky Stories to Read Aloud).
You might think that around forty stories is a paltry number to finish up with after forty years - just one a year! - but I feel I must point out that I also wrote ten novels, two of which have also been published by Sparsile Books. I trust you already knew this after perusing the Books section of the site (and, of course, purchasing the published volumes).
I enjoyed writing these stories and as far as I know my readership enjoyed reading them. Some details, which include brief forewords putting each story into some sort of context, are given over the next few pages.
