The Key, also set in Within, is a darker, adult continuation of Search for the Sage and Tunnel at World's End.

It is much longer than either of the children's books, at over 600 pages or some 180,000 words.

It took me ten years to write The Key, and certain parts of it I now associate now with my own life. In it, the original children from Search for the Sage and Tunnel at World's End have grown up, and their own children travel to Within. You can probably guess the names I used: Philip, Michael, and Sarah. I finished writing it at about the turn of the century, and it is dedicated to Mary, who never saw the finished book.

You could probably argue that Search for the Sage and Tunnel at World's End are a little old-fashioned now - although in my experience young children are old-fashioned and enjoy stories populated by witches, elves and so on.

But The Key, in my opinion anyway, is not old-fashioned and hasn’t really dated in the two decades since I wrote it. Now that I am a published author, maybe I’ll have more luck sending this around…
