When I joined the National Audit Office I was lucky enough to find a strong, thriving bridge club. Over the next seven years I played in the Business Houses League and the Civil Service League, gradually improving to the extent that I ended up in the first team. I played with a variety of partners, including a few matches with Filip Kurbalija, now a well-known Welsh international player.
I qualified as a bridge teacher by taking a bridge qualification under the eagle eye of GCH Fox.
Early in the 1980's I entered a national rubber bridge competition and was drawn against Elena and Giorgio Jeronimidis. Elena remarked that she was starting up a bridge magazine, and I offered to write an article for her. I am proud to report that I have been writing articles for Bridge Plus ever since - and continue to do so under the new editor Sally Brock.
Sadly, all Bridge Plus authors received news in August 2008 that the magazine was going to be wound up and subsumed into Bridge Magazine.
